Accounting Clerk

(Temporary Full-Time, 8-12 Weeks)

The Township of Spallumcheen has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary full time Accounting Clerk (8-12 week term).

Reporting and providing support to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for ensuring that the financial and accounting records of the Township of Spallumcheen are accurately maintained in accordance with the Township’s policies, procedures, bylaws and accounting best practices.

The Accounting Clerk requires detailed knowledge of the principles of accounting and finance, including the ability to perform all functions of a Finance Department – i.e. accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipting, taxes, utilities, general ledger, etc.

You will have considerable related work experience in finance, preferably in a municipal environment, supplemented by post secondary courses in accounting and business administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the fiscal processes for municipal operating programs is required as is knowledge of clerical accounting procedures. Keyboarding speed of 50 wpm and proficiency with Microsoft Office is also required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and strong customer service skills are required. The required education, training and experience for this position include completion of Grade 12, completion of two years toward a recognized accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent, and three years diverse work experience in accounting.

This is a regular full-time position (temporary 8-12 weeks) in the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) bargaining unit with a regular work schedule of 35 hours per week. The hourly rate of pay is $30.50(2020) with an additional 16% in lieu of benefits (outlined the CUPE Agreement in Article 17 Benefits, statutory holiday pay and vacation pay).
