Facilities Maintenance Worker
The City of North Vancouver requires a temporary full-time Facilities Maintenance Worker in the Facilities Department for approximately 18 months.
This position involves semi-skilled manual work in performing basic maintenance and repairs to City-owned facilities and equipment. You will maintain and repair interior finishes, furniture and plumbing; respond to service and emergency calls; prepare and paint surfaces; and under direction, perform minor alterations to buildings, equipment and grounds. Your other duties will include janitorial tasks, pressure washing, snow removal, ensuring building security and a safe environment within City-owned facilities, escorting contractors as required, and maintaining and updating records of building drawings and assigned work orders.
You will have hands-on experience in basic building/facility maintenance and repairs as well skills in the use and care of tools and equipment, together with a knowledge of basic functioning and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, plumbing and electrical equipment and related systems. You will use your knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
You will work with a variety of internal and external contacts and be required to maintain effective working relationships through both your verbal and written communication. A valid class 5 BC Driver’s License is also required.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
$24.81 to $29.16 per hour (January 2018 rates)
Pay Grade 15 (Provisional)
Hours of Work:
The hours of work are eight and one-half (8.5) consecutive hours, inclusive of an unpaid one (1) hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. The City of North Vancouver currently works a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
