Community Support Worker (Vancouver)

We are looking for approximately 6-12 hours/week of Intervention (times could be flexible, may include late afternoons, weekends, or occasional evenings) for our petite 21 year-old-daughter with global physical and developmental delay.

Our daughter is good-natured and is interested in sensory experiences such as going for walks in the neighbourhood (our home is in the Commercial Dr. area), enjoying sunshine, grass, warm water, playing with dry beans or smooth stones, squishing dough while doing cooking projects, etc.

She has vision and hearing impairment, is non-verbal and non-ambulatory, but crawls independently and walks short distances with assistance. This job entails all aspects of personal care, e.g. feeding, toileting, dressing, and bathing. It requires a small amount of lifting during transfers- 40lb. Our daughter can help a little with these things but needs a great deal of assistance.

This job requires someone who is mature, kind, observant, and dedicated, to be an advocate, friend and helper. You will be trained to use our daughter’s particular communication system. Knowledge of sign language and PECS is advantageous. Some training in Special Education is required.

A resume, criminal record check, and list of references will be required.
