The Village of Valemount is seeking applications for the position of Chief Administrative Officer/Corporate Officer.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for the overall management of the Villages’s daily operations.  Reporting to Mayor and Council, the CAO is responsible for the utilization of Village Staff, finances, and physical resources.

In addition, the CAO will help build and continue strong relationships with other local governments, First Nations, local businesses, and diverse community.

Preference may be given to a candidate who possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:
 

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as public administration, business administration, commerce, law, etc. and/or;
  • Preferably three to five years’ experience at a senior management level in a local government environment, as CAO, Corporate Officer or comparable experience;
  • Experience working with First Nations
  • Strong team leadership, analytical and organizational skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Discretion, tact, and good judgment;
  • Willingness to be innovative, creative and entrepreneurial;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a political environment, balance competing interests and function in a multi-stakeholder environment;
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations and policies and to provide appropriate advice to Council and staff; and
  • Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful work environment.

The successful candidate will also be required to complete a criminal records check prior to commencing employment as CAO.

The Community
Valemount is a rural community of approximately 1,100 residents in an area of 4 km2. Valemount is also the commercial centre for another 500 people who live in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (Area H).

Today Valemount’s economy is based on logging—Valemount Community Forest— and a rapidly growing tourism industry. Valemount has a strong accommodation sector with more than 450 rooms in hotels and motels within the municipality, and is one of 14 designated Resort Communities in the Province.  The Provincial Government also recently approved a Master Plan regarding a Mountain Resort development just west of the Village (Valemount Glacier Destination Resort).

The Village of Valemount is served by ADSL, 911 service, a volunteer Fire Department, RCMP detachment, and BC Ambulance Service. The Valemount Community Health Centre is a full service health centre with three full-time doctors, support staff, lab technicians, and nurses.

Valemount is located on the Yellowhead Highway 5, 290 km south of Prince George, 310 km from Kamloops and 120 km west of Jasper. Valemount is the home of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and is located at the watershed of the Fraser and Columbia basins. Valemount offers some amazing mountain biking, hiking and camping in the summer and worldclass snowmobiling and heliskiing in the winter.
