Ravens Lodge – Assistant Manager Position

UNYA has a F/T employment opportunity for an Assistant Manager with our Ravens Lodge Program. This program uses Culture as Therapy to help increase stability, continuity, and a sense of belonging of Aboriginal youth by creating a culturally focused family environment, and will utilize a holistic model of care which focuses on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects and strengths of the youth. The role of the Assistant Manager is to work together with the Program Manager to foster a positive, engaging workplace environment, maintain the day-to-day operations of the program and perform administration duties. The Assistant Manager also helps ensure the Ravens Lodge Program continually provides and maintains a safe, supportive environment that is culturally open and accessible in order to support the personal development of resident youth, whose families are unavailable or unable to meet their needs. The position is 40 hours per week and regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm, although these hours may be adjusted occasionally based on the needs of the program. The Assistant Manager reports directly to the Ravens Lodge Program Manager and the MCFD Programs Administrator.

Qualifications and Conditions:
1. Relevant College Diploma or University Degree
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in child & youth care, or a combination of relevant education
and experience working with street-involved youth
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the family and social issues that Native youth face today, including the intergenerational impacts of the residential school system on Native families and communities. As well as an understanding and willingness to participate in Native ceremonies, practices and traditions.
4. Knowledge of the following modalities:
• Culture as Therapy
• Person Centered Approach
• Family Systems Approach
• Trauma Informed Approach
5. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources in Vancouver, particularly youth and Aboriginal-specific resources.
6. Demonstrated self-initiative, as well as excellent mediation/supervisory skills and experience coordinating staff (counselling skills an asset).
7. Demonstrate strong organizational, and written & oral communications skills – including the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks, compile accurate records, prepare reports, undertake program evaluations and possess a strong working knowledge of computer systems and programs.
8. Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License; be willing to provide a Driver’s Abstract to ensure criteria for UNYA driving privileges are met.
9. Demonstrate an ability to identify with the mandate, policies and procedures of the organization.
10. Will need to have a Criminal Record Check completed by and satisfactory to UNYA.
11. Given the needs of youth accessing our services, preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
12. Assist with the day-to-day management and coordination of the program, including staff scheduling staff holidays, sick leave, and absences.
13. Assist the Program Manager with assessing and coordinating the recruitment, hiring, training, coaching, goal setting, and performance management of front-line staff at Ravens Lodge and ensure that licensing requirements for staff are current.
14. Support youth with day-to-day living needs, including developing a trusting, non-judgmental rapport. Supervise and participate in all Raven’s programming and activities in order to provide a positive role model experience for youth. Create a safe space for all youth and staff by responding to behaviors and situations through a trauma informed lens, modelling respectful behavior, and through thoughtful and fun interactions with staff and youth.
15. Positively and proactively address any concerns, incidents, or crises which affect youth participants, program mandate, UNYA policies, and community relations
16. Adhere to UNYA’s Philosophy of Care and all program specific and organization-wide policies and procedures.
17. Assist with maintaining appropriate statistical and written client reports and records in order to meet UNYA requirements, funder requirements, and licensing requirements.
18. Respect and assure youth participants’ confidentiality in the community and with other service professionals. Respect and maintain the confidentiality of staff issues within the team, with the exception of the Program Manager, MCFD Program Administrator and/or the Executive Director.
19. Establish and maintain a network of positive working relationships with other UNYA programs and other community programs/resources to ensure effective referrals and enhance access to a strong continuum of supports. Provide information, advocacy, and support in the referral process for internal and external healing programs, as well as other supports in the community, as individual needs require.
20. Monitor youth case planning, and ensure that case plans, as identified by residents and service professionals, are being implemented effectively. Liaise and advocate for youth’s best interests with VACFSS.
21. Assist with organizing and facilitating monthly staff meetings. Attend and positively participate in community/inter-agency meetings as required.
22. Ensure that all personnel, accounting information, and all other documentation are submitted to the MCFD Administrator in a timely manner.
23. Actively assist the staff team in the ongoing development and review of program components.
24. Attend professional development seminars to keep current regarding issues affecting street-involved youth. Research and utilize community referral networks.
25. Work together with the Ravens Lodge Manager to foster an engaging workplace environment. Consult with and report to Ravens Lodge Program Manager on a regular basis for ongoing assessment and refinement of the Ravens Lodge Program.
26. Perform on call duties, and respond to staff needs for immediate supervision as issues arise.
27. Perform any other duty deemed necessary by supervisor to ensure the safe, healthy, and productive operation of the Ravens Lodge Program.
