Reporting to the Trades Foreman 2, this is skilled technical work below the Journeyman level in monitoring, installing, operating, repairing and maintaining the City’s automated traffic signal systems and street lights. An employee of this class reviews traffic and pedestrian signal operations; installs aboveground and underground duct work and conduits; provides electrical installation, maintenance and repair support for sewage, water and drainage pumping stations and other City facilities. Performs related work as required.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required for this apprenticeship opportunity. The completion of a pre-apprenticeship or entry-level training program would be an asset. Preference will also be given to applicants with relevant education, experience and a related background, or those who have some knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in this Trade.

Additional requirements are as follows:

  • Satisfactory attendance, safety, and performance record;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to maintain effective relationships with coworkers;
  • Ability and aptitude for this work;
  • Knowledge of safety principles for this trade;
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the work;
  • Valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.

Regular attendance and successful completion of all coursework are required.
